A chronic sleep deficit can severely disrupt a person's performance at work, adversely affect health and wellbeing over the long term, and can pose an immediate safety hazard to under-rested drivers and operators of heavy equipment.
Sleep issues can be caused or aggravated by metabolic imbalances, medication, recreational drugs, and stress. James Cedar, founder of Austin, Texas based Functional Energy Academy has a background in massage therapy and has another strategy for the sleep deprived. James describes how he discovered a great way to help someone who struggles falling asleep: "My wife has always had sleep issues. Fortunately, we both went through a massage program together, and each day we would practice giving each other massage. What we discovered was that a gentle massage before bed would help her fall right to sleep."
James adds that a person doesn't have to be a massage therapist to help his or her significant other fall asleep. Often just the act of gently touching someone is very relaxing, and there are numerous YouTube tutorials demonstrating simple massage techniques. There are also a wide variety of massage tools and gadgets available on the market to make the job easier.
