(Austin.CityRegions.Com, January 06, 2016 ) Austin, TX -- OneTweak CEO, Jan Brauner, unveiled a share-your-story feature on the pedometer company's OneTweak website beginning with her own personal story. Some of it is gritty. Some of it is inspiring. She begins with life lived obsessively online and ends with the dramatic changes OneTweak and walking made in her life. She calls her story a "pick-myself-up-from-the-bottom narrative."
When Brauner moved back from decades in the Middle East, she "discovered" computers. Soon, she spent sixteen hours a day on a chair in front of a screen. She describes her computer initiation this way: "I discovered research capabilities unimaginable in a world sans computer. A world's database bowed before me. I devoured it." She calls her newfound info world a "veritable feast."
Many readers can relate to what happened next. Her "veritable feast" starved the living out of life. She began to revolve primarily in a viral world instead of interacting with those around her. Worse, she says, "My computer steeped me in the tawdry entrails of human existence on a large scale. I began to feel depressed."
In an interview, Brauner said her "sads" were exacerbated as an expatriate. She had lived in the Middle East for decades in a tight-knit community. She raised five children there. She began a restaurant with a close friend. Life excited her. She came home to a world she hardly recognized. A self-described "news junkie," Brauner explained that her exposure inevitably revolved around the "awful," because that's what predominates in a news-saturated world. But the negative news- framing spiraled her between "shock and numbness."
There were physical side effects, as well. She had no stamina. Her "veins took a beating." Her blood pressure spiked. She felt exhausted.
Amidst all this, her husband returned overseas.
In her compelling story, she describes how that all changed with the advent of OneTweak and the discovery of walking. She began walking to test pedometers. She kept walking because she felt so good. In her words, "I don't think it is hyperbole to say that a pedometer can be life-changing if it gets you to walk more…to live more."
She ends her story with an invitation to others to share their stories about their OneTweak pedometers or walking's impact upon them. If you send a story to OneTweak's support, it will be posted on their website, anonymously or not as per request. Stories can be short snippets or they can be long narratives. They can be funny or serious. As Brauner says, "Your story is YOUR story."
Brauner closes with her belief that "narrative[s] can be transformative. We live and revolve in a couch-potato nation filled with folks just like me…nibbling around the edges of life. Tell your story and change the world nibble by nibble!"
OneTweak recently launched their product on Amazon.
