(Austin.CityRegions.Com, April 28, 2014 ) Austin, TX -- The latest version of the Shadowfist card game promises the most intense and entertaining one of all. Developed by Daniel Griego of Austin, Tex., Shadowfist is a “mile-a-minute, sword-clashing, butt-kicking, Uzi-spraying, boat-exploding, car-chasing, monster-crunching, Hong Kong cinematic action card game.”
The Coming Darkness, produced by Griego’s company, Inner Kingdom Games, is the most recent installment of the game, offering a complete block of three 50-card fixed expansions that follow martial arts cop heroine, Edie Tso, on an adventure through the modern criminal underworld. It’s the exciting follow-up to last year’s Rebirth Cycle, and includes three tracks: Queens Gambit, Knight's Journey and Endgame.
“It's like Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon, Hard Boiled, Wing Chun, The Killer, Storm Riders, Iron Monkey, Master Killer, Ballistic Kiss, and the rest of your favorite Hong Kong action films all rolled into one,” Griego said.
Development, printing and marketing of these collectible card games (CCG) are financed through the support of gamers all over the world. The current Kickstarter campaign has broke over $20,000 of the goal and can be viewed at the Kickstarter project page.
Those who would like to support The Coming Darkness can make a contribution of any amount. Depending on their donation levels, backers will receive card packs as well as additional add-ons to enhance game play, like token character decks and play mats.
Griego’s goal is to complete production of the new card cycle in time for the Origins Game fair, to be held in Columbus, Ohio, June 11-15. For further information about Origins, visit their official website.
He’s close to hitting that mark and, if history repeats itself, The Coming Darkness will be available by June. Griego’s first two cycles of Shadowfist were funded through highly successful Kickstarter campaigns.
Shadowfist was originally published as a CCG by Daedalus Entertainment in 1995. Daedalus went out of business in 1996 and the license was acquired by Zev Shlasinger in 2000. Shlasinger released 13 new sets over the next eight years. The last Shadowfist Games set was produced in 2009 until Griego revived the action card game in 2013.
Under Griego’s management, Shadowfist is thriving once again and The Coming Darkness figures to become the most successful version of the popular game. “After all, what's more fun than cyborg monkeys battling Confucian monks in downtown Kowloon while truck-driving heroes set booby traps for evil sorcerers?” asked Griego.
